Brief:
The museum is housed in a prefabricated colonial building, which is a
National Monument. It was imported from Britain and used initially as
a trade station at Akwete from 1892 to 1902, then dismantled and carried
to Aba Government Station to become the office and living quarters of
the District Officer until 1960. It was renovated and opened to the public
as a museum in March 1985.
The near-by colonial Post Office is also being refurbished to house a
Museum of Nigerian postal history.
Collections:
Archival and pictorial materials on the colonial period.
Also, old Nigerian currency and slave trade objects.
