KATSINA
Brief:
The museum is housed on the premises of Old Katsina Training College,
which was premier education institution in Northern Nigeria established
in 1921 and declared an ancient Hiistorical Monument and a National Museum
in 1989. It houses archaeological materials (mainly potsherds) from different
areas of the state.
Near-by is the famous 14th century Gobirau Minaret, a National Monument
and a striking example of the indigenous earth architecture. It was the
highest building in the ancient city and its environs and was used as
the first Central Mosque in Katsina and a defense surveillance tower.
