DECLARED MONUMENTS IN NIGERIA
Obu House Elu Ohafia:
The Ndi Anaga meeting house is unpretention from the outside. Its structure
is very simple: a large veranda closed by earthen walls at both ends and
one longitudinal side and the other side open towards the compound.
The monumentality of the building is due to the magnificent effects created
by three rows of richly carved posts supporting the roof and dividing
the interior into three narrow aisles.
The pillars are carved with representations of warriors masquerades and
women carrying loads, combined with geometrical or perhaps stylised botanical
patterns.
Declaration:
Declared Monuments on 19th March, 1963.
