ORON
Brief:
The museum is the first Nigerian museum to be established east of the
Niger by K. C. Murrey. It and was originally established to house the
Ekpu Oroancestral figures of the Oron people and was opened to the public
in 1959. It was destroyed during the Nigerian Civil War and its contents
looted. The museum was re-built and re-opened as a National Museum with
an ethnographic research exhibition by Keith Nicklin in 1977.
