DECLARED MONUMENTS IN NIGERIA
Gobiran Minaret Katsina:
This tower or minaret which originally was said to be over 400feet before
the main body of the tower fell down, was built when Islam was founding
its feet at Katsina.
Before it was built there were furious arguments between the Mallam about
the direction of the Killa (the East) until when Alhaji Sodoma came on
the scene and settled the arguments by pointing to the exact direction.
Building then commenced during the reign of Sarkin Katsina Koran who
offered tempting gift to any Mu'azzin who could climb to the top of the
tower to call people for prayers. Several people died in trying to reach
the top. Neglect and inability to reach the top to effect repairs caused
the falling down and the reduction in height of the tower to what it is
today.
